A fair warning; prepare yourself for lots of condensed summaries of books 2-24, including the first two Megamorph novels. ^^;
Jake’s life was never quite the same since he’s been through all that. Before suggesting to look deeper into spying on Chapman, the highest ranking Human-Controller they knew, Jake tried to see if he could once more sneak into the entrance he discovered before as the green anole lizard. Alas, for that secret entrance was no more.
In The Visitor, he had to turn to his cousin Rachel to use her friend Melissa Chapman to get any information on Chapman but Melissa had become more distant and miserable than Rachel, Jake, and the rest realized.
They found a way into Chapman’s house, but it wasn’t easy. Rachel had to acquire the tomcat the real Chapman gave to his daughter as a birthday present. The tomcat was prowling on a hunt and ran from the kids up a tree. To get the stubborn cat down, Rachel had to morph a shrew. She was lucky that Tobias and the others were around to look after her.
Getting into Chapman’s home was a success, but Tobias later tattled to Jake that Rachel wasn’t focusing all that much on her mission. She wanted to comfort her friend.
On the second time around, through the help of Cassie, Jake hitched a ride on Rachel in cat morph as a flea. He scared her almost half to death by communicating to her via thought-speak. Chapman grabbed Rachel who scratched and bit him, sticking her into a kitty carrier. This was going bad real fast, and Rachel told Jake to bail out, but he was stubborn. He wasn’t going to just leave Rachel at the mercy of Visser Three.
In the end it was another very close call, as they barely escaped with their lives.
On Tobias in the third book, The Encounter, Jake had been helping him to live by feeding him table scraps up in the attic of his house. Until the hawk took over and killed a mouse in a forest by a meadow, Jake had taken care of him this way. Tobias had to deal with the fact that he had to live and hunt as a hawk for the rest of his life. Jake, Cassie, Marco, and Rachel all became wolves for the first time. From then on, the wolf became Cassie’s battle morph.
They also had to go on a mission to put a big Yeerk cargo ship out of commission that was draining water out of a lake somewhere around a mountain range, all but Tobias morphing as trout. Things didn’t go as well as they hoped, and it was yet again a close call.
In the next one, The Message, Jake wasn’t the only one in the group feeling weirded out on Cassie and Tobias having exactly the same kind of strange dreams about a far off voice calling to them from the ocean. When Jake had a recorded news report to show his friends, it was of an old man finding a piece of metal that had an alien alphabet he had recognized because he remembered seeing these odd letters in Elfangor’s ship.
As this became clear, Cassie and Tobias had passed out to receive another message of distress that they believed to be not a human but an Andalite. Marco, Jake, and Rachel felt a sort of strange and unexplainable feeling themselves. Jake had turned to Cassie, supporting her and giving her the choice on whether or not they should go to the ocean and find out if these dreams were truly real. Cassie in response told him she didn’t know if they were.
One night at the beach they found out from a Human-Controller searching party led by Chapman and Tom that Visser Three had been having these dreams too. Then the group had to bail, for they found their human footprints and started running and shooting after them.
At the Gardens sometime later on, Marco, Cassie, Rachel, and Jake acquired dolphin morphs to go search in the ocean to see if there was actually an Andalite down there. Jake was among the other three to get caught up in the dolphin’s instincts to treat everything like a game. Without Tobias reminding everyone else on what needed to be done, they would have never gotten back on track.
But when a whale was unable to surface to gain a lungful of oxygen, Jake and the others fought a group of sharks to save it. Marco’s dolphin tail was almost completely off, and Jake knew he couldn’t swim. So, Cassie and Jake helped keep Marco’s head above the water as he demorphed to human. The big humpback surfaced underneath Marco to keep him from floundering and struggling to keep afloat in the ocean waters.
With a bit of luck, thorough planning, and the help of that humpback whale (that voicelessly spoke and sent images to Cassie while she was in dolphin form), they had found the location of the Andalite days later. He turned out to be Elfangor’s younger brother; Aximili-Esgarrouth-Isthill. They decided to call him Ax for short. It was through Jake and his friends minus Tobias he first learned of his brother’s death. Then he acquired DNA samples from each of them to blend them all together to create a disturbingly attractive human teenager morph. To Jake and the rest of the Animorphs, it’s kind of eerie to look at because they could notice their body traits and single them out.
And when Ax learned that Jake was their leader, he gave him the title of ‘Prince’. Andalite warriors always do this with their leaders.
So whenever Ax has referred to him as “Prince Jake”, he kept telling him not to, for to him that felt awkward and embarrassing. He knew that he wasn’t truly a prince. This constant exchange between them always confuses Jake, for he’s never sure if Ax has a sense of humor or not.
Jake and Cassie talked to Ax prior to where The Predator begins to see what he wanted to do. Ax wanted to go back to the Andalite home world. To do that, Marco and Jake had to take Ax to the mall’s Radio Shack to build a device that would send out a distress signal in order to hijack a Yeerk Bug Fighter. At the mall, Jake and Marco had a tough time keeping an eye on the Andalite in human form (otherwise he’d just attract WAY too much unwanted attention). The sense of taste excited Ax, since they don’t have any mouths.
Ax found all the components needed except for a Z-space transponder. (Z-space is short for zero-space, the opposite of normal space.) Upon leaving the Radio Shack, Ax headed toward the food court, racing around like a maniac eating scraps of leftover food. This brought the attention of the mall’s security. Marco and Jake raced after them who wanted to catch Ax. During the on foot pursuit, Ax started to demorph in public, to which one of the rent-a-cops hissed, “Andalite!” (They let the Yeerks assume they’re all Andalites, for it was safer to hide their true identities. It’d be all over for planet Earth if their enemies found out the truth.)
Ax, Marco, and Jake managed to leave the mall to be chased into a grocery store. Marco started to yell at the top of his lungs that there was a bomb inside the store, to cause enough distraction for them to find a way out of this mess. Marco suggested morphing the lobsters in the water tank, and what a horrible plan that turned out to be! The three were close to getting boiled alive! There was no choice but to demorph in front of the woman who brought them near a boiling pot of water. She was screaming non-stop as Jake was gently trying to calm her down. He told her that she was dreaming all this up. Before leaving, Marco spoke to the distraught woman to take the real lobsters to the beach and set them free as a request.
Not long after that did they discuss on how to get the Z-Space transponder. Jake didn’t say much for he was feeling grumpy, because he had terrible dreams of the lobster incident. He snapped to attention when Rachel mentioned that Chapman spoke to Visser Three through some kind of holographic device at his house (back in book 2). Ax said that there must have been a Z-Space transponder in the communicator.
Going back to Chapman’s place as the family’s pet cat was obviously out. They had to find another way to sneak in.
Jake spoke to Marco at school over Cassie’s idea to morph ants. Neither of them seemed to want to look forward to it…
Jake and the rest morphed to ants of a similar color that lived around Chapman’s house. Tobias was keeping watch, as Jake and the rest weren’t in control of themselves. It terrified them once their feathered friend kept telling them they were going the wrong way and snap out of it. Even Ax, who wasn’t originally from Earth, was afraid on how the ant had no sense of self whatsoever. They were like the cogs of a machine.
Through tunnels underground already done by what their ant minds detected as enemy territory, they successfully made it to the room where that Yeerk communicator device was. Marco was so ready to get out of that ant body. He found a light and turned it on before locating the Z-Space transponder, to which Ax described it as a computer disc about the size of a pea. Together, three out of the five began to roll it out through the tunnel. Soon, the enemy ants came pouring out to attack them. The near fatal mistake being that they hadn’t acquired ants from the ant colony living in Chapman’s yard. They had to demorph out of the ground or else get torn apart. From then on, it was unanimous for the group on deciding to never, ever, ever morph the ant again.
As the distress beacon device was assembled by Ax, they found someplace remote to wait for a Bug Fighter to arrive. Everyone got to their places; all morphed as various animals (except Ax, who stayed as his true form) to get ready to fight off the pilot and co-pilot—a Hork-Bajir Controller and a Taxxon. The Yeerks knew this was bound to happen and set a trap. Visser Three and some of his troops took them aboard his Blade Ship as prisoners to show them off to his boss Visser One on the Yeerk mothership. Visser One being of highest Yeerk rank.
The host of Visser One happens to be Marco’s mother, who everyone in Jake’s group had believed that she had drowned two years ago. Jake and Marco were the only ones to recognize her, as Jake kept speaking telepathically to Marco that she was not his mother, not anymore.
The group learned that Visser Three and Visser One despised one another, but had to put up with each other nonetheless. Yeerk politics, as Rachel pointed out.
One of Visser One’s elite troops took out Visser Three’s guards to help Jake and company to escape through the drop shaft to an escape pod. This was done to embarrass Visser Three.
From then on, Marco had stopped being the most reluctant of the Animorphs. He firmly told Jake not to tell anyone about his mother. The rest were left to believe that she was dead--for now.
As The Capture begins, Tom and Jake’s parents leave the house for a while. Jake saw the opportunity to try out a new morph; cockroach. His mom and dad came home earlier than expected, because Dad hurt his foot while playing tennis. Jake had walked into a Roach Motel and got stuck. Both he and the roach mind were both curious to see what that box thing was. Out of desperation, Jake demorphed behind the fridge. He had to make up a convincing lie when his mom was addressing him a little suspiciously.
The next day, just after he and his friends get a laugh out of his story of the Roach Motel Incident, he revealed that he has noticed Tom’s Yeerk moving on up at the Sharing. They decided to see what was going on at one of the meetings using the cockroach morph. Tobias said that Tom and Visser Three in human morph had stepped out of a limousine before entering the meeting, in which was pursuing on taking control of the governor.
Eventually, getting out of there didn’t go so well, because Jake had been badly poisoned as Tobias had rescued him and told him it was safe to go back to human form. Jake was shaken but alive once he had fully demorphed.
Jake and his friends knew that they had to try and save the governor. They found out through Marco’s Internet research that he was going to a clinic to get some minor surgery done. Roach morphs were not their choice, since the Yeerks would probably be expecting them to return as roaches. Besides, they wanted another morph that could see better and go by undetected at the clinic. Cassie suggested turning into flies, in which Jake felt queasy about. He remembered seeing The Fly movies.
Since Cassie still was the best morpher, even Ax was well aware of this, she was chosen to morph into a fly first. Jake was there to watch and freaked out because it’s utterly disgusting and frightening to turn into this insect. In fact all morphing to the Animorphs are gross, but the fly morph is among the most gross.
Upon being flies, all minus Tobias found this to be very cool, because they could go in any direction, straight up and diagonally and so forth—very unlike how flying has been for them as various birds of prey.
At the clinic, they managed to boil some Yeerks alive as they swam in a miniature Yeerk pool. An accident happened as Jake fell unconscious, face down into the pool. When he woke up, he slowly realized that the sole surviving Yeerk, Temrash 114—who was about to infest the governor, had infested Jake’s mind and body. This Yeerk had formerly enslaved Tom, yet to Jake’s despair Tom wasn’t allowed to go free. He was to become the host of a different one.
When Ax got near Jake, the Yeerk in his head called him “Andalite filth” in hatred. From that moment on, everyone else realized that Jake wasn’t really Jake. The real Jake caged inside his own head experienced the same horrors Tom must have suffered; the Yeerk taking complete control of his body while knowing all of his dreams and secrets.
Thank goodness for his friends, as Cassie, Rachel, and Marco helped Ax to become and behave like Jake while he was held in an old abandoned shed located far off into the woods for three days.
Temrash 114 tried to use Jake to morph and escape numerous times only to be attacked by some of the local wildlife, or Jake’s friends in morph. Even Tobias harshly threatened to poke out Jake’s falcon eyes to prevent the Yeerk from getting away.
When it came to the final hour in the Yeerk’s agonizingly slow Kandrona starvation, the fugue started. It was in which Jake got to see Temrash 114’s memories as he moved from host to host; from a monkey-like species from the Yeerk home planet called a Gedd, to a Hork-Bajir, to Tom. Jake, as he had no choice but to watch, learned how Tom became an involuntary Controller.
As Temrash 114 died, Jake caught a glimpse of a giant blood red eye on an armless bio-mechanic body on a throne. The eye took notice of him, and this terrified him. After that, the Yeerk slug crawled out of Jake’s head through the ear canal to wither and die.
Jake and his friends in The Stranger weren’t exactly eager on going back to the Yeerk Pool, for they still had nightmares about it. Tobias and Marco had found another entrance, at the mall. Jake looked annoyed as Rachel felt when it was only those two who had done surveillance to look for it.
As roaches at The Gap in the mall, they followed a Human Controller into the secret entrance. Upon their first attempt to try and locate the Kandrona, they were almost eaten alive by a Taxxon! Almost, because they were saved by an all powerful being who called himself the Ellimist, as time froze around them. The kids were all together in their human forms during this encounter. Even Tobias was back in his human form, but only temporarily. Rachel, Tobias, Marco, Cassie, and Jake noticed that Ax was feeling quite nervous around this guy. Their Anadlite friend and comrade explained that they were told in childrens’ fairy tales and that Ellimists were the ultimate tricksters of the universe.
The Ellimist gave them a choice, to continue to resist the Yeerks, or give in and go along with their families and some species of Earth animals to a similar planet. They were told if they said no, everything would go back to the way it was. Marco, Rachel, Cassie, Ax, and Jake would go back to being roaches at risk of becoming a Taxxon’s lunch as Tobias would go back to where he was back in hawk form.
Jake was irritated over this because he felt that he and his friends shouldn’t be deciding this. He thought the Ellimist was being ridiculous, even though he believed that this sentient creature was maybe trying to do the right thing.
For a voting decision, Rachel, Tobias, Marco, and Ax said no (because no matter what he would always decide what “Prince Jake” decided). Jake couldn’t decide while Cassie said yes. For the final decision, Jake went along with the majority vote.
The Ellimist then said that he will ask again, if Marco, Rachel, Cassie, Ax, and Jake got out alive. Out of desperation, they had to demorph while inside the Taxxon, because they very much wanted to live and not suffocate and be digested. Jake gave the order to run off and morph if able to do so. They fought and escaped. Jake could have been killed if he hadn’t hollered that Rachel was out of control in a new morph he saw for the first time; a grizzly bear.
The others minus Tobias and Ax hadn’t seen Rachel in school the next day. Ax and Tobias had to stay primarily in the forest behind Cassie’s farm, for an Andalite and a red-tailed hawk showing up would look suspicious. She had played hookie and spent the whole afternoon flying as a bald eagle. Jake was upset as he thought about the group as a whole. He had called his cousin out on being irresponsible for going to the Gardens on her own to acquire the grizzly. Then by the next minute, he looked exhausted, for no one seemed to have gotten much sleep the night before.
Rachel shouted and ranted about her father moving out of town, asking to come live with him. (Her parents are divorced.) She dumped on them about her frustration with the Ellimist too.
From that moment Marco changed his vote to yes, to go to that planet the Ellimist had set aside, because Rachel was losing it. Jake of course couldn’t deny that, but was stubborn in not wanting to give up the fight against the Yeerks.
Then the Ellimist took them to an alternate timeline in the future he created. Tobias was back in human form temporarily once again. They saw how grim and bleak Earth and all humans looked if the Yeerks had succeeded in taking over Earth. They encountered a version of Rachel in the future, alongside with Visser Three, who had been promoted to Visser One. They couldn’t do anything but put fear into their hearts, as it would affect their timeline, but as Rachel was changing into a grizzly bear to cause the Visser some damage, Jake and the others were back in their original time. Everything once more was returned to the way things were before.
Rachel had eventually found out for herself on where the Kandrona was, in the tall EGS tower building, for the Ellimist had in his own bizarre way revealed it. The EGS tower in the possible future remained as it was. Nothing had changed about it.
There were some Hork-Bajir to fight at the top, but they made it and found the Kandrona. Tobias made sure to see that there were no pedestrians around down below before Rachel morphed into the African elephant to give it a good push. The Kandrona fell several stories and shattered upon hitting the ground.
For the weekend at the beginning of the firstbig kahuna Megamorphs book, The Andalite’s Gift, Jake and Cassie were invited to a pool party while Marco was not. It was when sometime after Jake calmly threatened to kill Marco as he and Ax were running around the host’s yard chasing her as a pair of mice that disaster struck. As they were demorphing in the girl’s basement, a large dust beast that formed into a living creature of many blades on its body attacked the house. When they were fully Andalite and human, the beast dispersed and vanished.
The news reporters said it was a tornado had attacked but that was far from the truth. As Cassie, Marco, Ax (in human form), and Jake watched the news at Cassie’s house, the report was being taped. Cassie saw something and the video was freeze framed to see a tall blond girl, barefoot in a black leotard fleeing toward a woodsy area nearby a heavily damaged ice cream truck. Rachel, who was supposed to have been at gymnastics camp up in the mountains.
Jake and the others upon seeing this must have suspected that the dust beast had gone after her too. He, along with Marco rode the bus to the scene where this took place and decided to morph as wolves. The dust beast had returned! They tried to outrun it in the woods and found out that the trees slowed the monster down some until it suddenly stopped and changed direction to head someplace that smelled of fire and smoke.
Following their wolf noses they arrived too late to pick up Rachel’s and Ax’s scents, Tobias flying from tree to tree alongside them. Ax’s tracks in the ground stop, as if he was picked up and carried away, but Tobias was confident that he was alright. That left Marco and Jake stumped in trying to figure out why that vicious monster had stopped attacking them to go after Rachel and Ax.
Upon meeting up with Cassie at her farm, she told them from spying on Chapman at the mall that this creature was called a Veleek. Then they figured out why it doesn’t just go pick them off one by one, because the morphing energy triggers it.
Later on into the night, they arranged a plan for the Veleek to chase them. Cassie, and Jake rode in Cassie’s dad’s pickup truck. Marco drove hitting any trash cans he came across while they yelled in panic about the oncoming cars. (“Do you hate trash cans? Is that your problem? Do you just HATE TRASH CANS?!” <--one of the best Jake quotes of the all the books right there XD)
They slowed down to see Rachel going from elephant to human. Cassie stayed behind as Jake began to become the tiger, with Marco speeding up again. Jake bailed just after Marco pulled over in the woods to lead it away from the suburban homes.
To sum everything up about that night, it was total chaos.
Marco was taken by the Veleek. It wasn’t until much, much later after he and Ax had escaped from Visser Three’s ship that they learned of the Veleek’s weakness; water. They also learned about what happened to Rachel. She was in bald eagle morph about to go see Tobias when a flock of crows surrounded and attacked her. She hit a tree and had amnesia and was so lost for quite a while up to the night they saw each other.
Jake was worried for Cassie on her idea of doing all these different morphs to attract then drown it, but she pulled through without a problem. The Veleek couldn’t lift Cassie in humpback whale form because it couldn’t carry that weight as they splashed down. The monster broke up into a million particles and died upon hitting the ocean waters.
In the eighth book, The Alien, Yeerks were finally starting to weaken, but only a little, after some weeks of Kandrona starvation for many of them. That didn’t necessarily mean that the hosts would live, as Jake had found out, with Ax (in human morph for a day to learn about what a human school is like) by his side.
Jake was rather upset with Ax that he already knew this, and he began to suspect him of hiding other secrets too. He had sent Marco to press Ax for information. Marco offered to take Ax to a bookstore and bought him a World Almanac, to study humans.
After some time from receiving comfort from Cassie, and some help from Tobias and Rachel in trying to take down Visser Three (because they knew Ax felt he had to avenge his brother’s death), Ax explained to them the Andalite law called Seerow’s Kindess. Prince Seerow was the Andalite that made a mistake of aiding the Yeerks to travel among the stars with them by handing them advanced technology. From then on, Andalites made aiding any other non-Andalites through advanced technology strictly prohibited.
Jake and the rest understood the guilt, and everything worked out. Ax continued to be part of the resistance, and promised not to hide anything important from them ever again.
The Yeerks tried to start a logging company to cut down the forest where Tobias and Ax lived in (The Secret). It was surrounded by a force field, and Jake had to create a distraction while the others went underground as termites. Termites would be another social type of insect that aren’t any better than the horror of infiltrating as ants, as Jake learned later of Cassie of feeling bad about killing the termite queen and destroying the colony. It wasn’t like she had a choice, but still, she felt horrible for doing it.
Cassie also felt responsible for coming across an adult skunk who got burned bad from a Yeerk Dracon Beam (they’re sort of like phasers from Star Trek). So responsible that Jake had to run off and get Cassie to morph back from a copy of that skunk that was sleeping in a den with the real skunk’s kits. Jake and the others decided to take turns caring for the babies until their real mother was well enough to be reunited with them.
The mission to disband the logging company came to be a risky success, leaving Visser Three humiliated and furious after Cassie skunk sprayed him.
Marco had worked his charm into convincing Jake to go with him to a concert during the time line of The Android. Jake went along for the reasons that Marco would go as his newly acquired Irish Setter morph anyway, without him. And since this was the first time Marco had transformed into a dog, Jake warned his friend not to let himself get too happy.
Marco saw an old friend he knew known as Erek King. Erek was handing out flyers about the Sharing to anyone he passed by. And upon recognizing him, Marco’s dog nose found not a single scent on him. After a discussion about this, they began to spy on him, and when the kid got hit by a car, for a moment in the middle of the road, Erek seemed to flicker out of existence for a second as there was something made out of steel and white plastic.
Everyone later learned that they had some allies that pretended to be Controllers Erek explained that his race were called the Chee, and they too were fighting the Yeerks in their own, non-violent way. They’ve been on Earth ever since the pyramids in Ancient Egypt were first built.
Erek projected one of his memories to show them the Pemalites, a race of peaceful and fun loving aliens that looked weirdly like big dogs that walked on two legs. They had created the Chee (in which means “friend” in their language), and programmed them so that the androids were their companions and incapable of violence. The Howlers, a race not from their world came and wiped out many Pemalites. The last of what remained died of sickness. The Chee tried the best they could to save their beloved masters and infused the very essence of them with wolves. And that would be why there were dogs on Earth.
Then Erek mentioned of a crystal the Yeerks had that could change this. The difficulty of retrieving the Pemalite Crystal was the light and motion sensored security. It was located in a completely dark room. Every one of the Animorphs and Ax except Tobias managed to avoid being detected by morphing bats, in which could send out echolocation bursts through their mouths. Jake took up the task of carrying the crystal (that was the size of a grape) in his bat mouth, but he would be unable to send echolocation burst. So, they had to fight their way out, as many Hork-Bajir Controllers surrounded the building.
The Animorphs were way outnumbered, and would have been wiped out if Erek hadn’t come to their rescue, using the Pemalite Crystal to wipe all the guards out. After this, Erek had felt an immense sadness. The Chee were meant to stay non-violent as Erek’s holographic image of a human kid’s face was shedding tears. While humans are able to forget, the Chee cannot. For the rest of Erek’s existence, he would never be able to get what he did. Even though Erek knew he was to remain a pacifist, he would continue to help the Animorphs by spying on Yeerk activities.
Jake and Marco were at the beach later with Jake’s dog Homer. Upon seeing some intelligence in those eyes of the golden retriever and his new dog friends, Marco let Homer take the crystal, as he swam about a dozen feet into the ocean, and let the Pemalite Crystal drop to the bottom.
As if life couldn’t get any crazier for Jake, he started to experience these very realistic visions of being in the Amazon jungle with his friends in the eleventh book, The Forgotten. The first vision occurred while Jake was having a miserable time square dancing with Rachel and Cassie at school. He knew it was nothing normal, not even close to a typical daydream. In the vision, he could feel humidity, hear bugs flying around his head, and had seen so much green all too vividly in just a few seconds.
The second time he had a vision was two hours or so later when he and the others were soaring over the scene of a damaged Safeway. By then, he started to wonder whether or not to steal this Bug Fighter and take it to Washington D.C. to show it to the President of the U.S. He started to believe he was losing his mind, not that he was telling everyone else this because he knew he was supposed to the leader. The others looked to him to decide on whether or not they should do this mission.
Jake had a bad feeling about going for this, but he decided the group should look into it anyway.
Another vision came to him as all but Tobias were crossing a highway at night in the rain. Jake had come close to being a dead fly on a car windshield.
Upon reaching the Safeway, they learned it was a Bug Fighter that crashed—a new prototype model of one. Everyone agreed to steal it, as Tobias took a risk of being shot at to distract the Controllers moving around in the grocery store as five flies zoomed in and demorphed. Tobias barely made it inside the ship before take off.
Ax moved the ship as Jake took over the weapons as they encountered Visser Three’s Blade Ship in space. Two twin Dracon Beams hit and tore open a hole in space and time, called a Sario Rip.
The Animorphs and the Yeerks aboard the Blade Ship had gone a day backward in time, stranded in the Amazon jungle. Jake realized that they were at where his visions were taking place, and then had a vision of himself square dancing with Rachel. As he said something Marco was talking in sarcasm in unison, there was no choice but to tell the others about the visions. He also told Ax to go retrieve the one thing that would make it impossible for the Yeerks to take back their missing Bug Fighter they crashed.
As they were having a tough time trying to stay alive from not only avoiding the Yeerks, but the vicious wildlife such as bugs and very large snakes as well. Tobias was having the hardest time adapting, since red-tailed hawks weren’t native to a rain forest environment.
The ship’s computer core that Ax had taken turned out to be one of several mistakes that Jake had made as a leader. It was needed to be put into the Bug Fighter to recreate what had happened in space before two versions of everyone, Animorph and Yeerk, would disappear from existence...in under twenty-four hours.
There was another way to close the Sario Rip, but Ax chose not to bring that up. Jake made the mistake of leaving him be.
Not all hope was lost just yet, as the Animorphs became allies with a native tribe of people that lived in the rain forest because the Controllers were destroying many of the animals. An alliance to stop the Yeerks from burning the whole rainforest down with Dracon Beams was made.
They had little time left on into the night as the Animorphs walked into a trap set by Visser Three, He had morphed into one of his deadly alien monster morphs and had trapped all of Jake’s friends. In a desperate act to save them, he turned into a monkey as one of the Visser’s living vines terminated Jake, but as that happened he was back to the time just before turning into flies to go over to the Safeway. He clearly didn’t want a repeat of everything that happened in the Amazon, so he made the decision to step out.
Jake found it incredibly weird that only he remembered being in the rain forest, as the others didn’t. He remembered on Ax not willing to tell him something important and spoke with him in private. Ax explained the alternative in closing the Sario Rip, that one of the two Jakes were to be eliminated. The two morphs Jake had acquired in the Amazon—spider monkey and jaguar—didn’t exist anymore because when he was back in his original time to cancel the mission from starting that got them stranded there in the first place.
So, in other words, everything was back to as it was when Jake started having the visions. Only this time, there weren’t any visions.
There was a side that was so rarely seen in Jake’s cousin in The Reaction, when she and Cassie found it to be their duty to protect their favorite family sit-com celebrity from becoming a Controller. Before this, he was told of Rachel’s reckless but heroic rescue of saving a little kid from becoming a crocodile’s snack at the Gardens during a school field trip.
When she started having an allergic morphing reaction to her crocodile morph and didn’t tell anybody other than Cassie about it, Jake was of course mad at her for nearly getting everyone killed during a mission because she was unable to control her bizarre morphing. Mostly everyone else was too.
In order to get rid of the allergy, the crocodile morph had to come into existence right out of his cousin. Rachel lied about getting having already done it to try and get the chance to be on live television, to stop her ex-TV crush Jeremy Jason McCole from discussing about the Sharing as he had become a voluntary Controller. However, no one got killed, except Jeremy Jason’s Yeerk in which Rachel stepped on.
Two Hork-Bajir named Jara Hamee and Ket Halpak had escaped from the Yeerk Pool during the start of The Change, and the Ellimist wanted to help them find a place to live and hide away from the Yeerks. Tobias was used to do this, but Tobias in return wanted to become human again in exchange.
Since Tobias was the one who knew where the location of a hidden valley was, somewhere way deep in the forest, he had to take over Tobias’s job in peregrine falcon form—to scout out for any danger. It was intense and extremely dangerous, since the Yeerks wanted to capture Jara and Ket so bad (for they had sent Taxxons and Hork-Bajir Controllers out in broad daylight). Tobias and Rachel morphed duplicates of the renegade Hork-Bajir to trick them to believe that the real pair had been chased off a cliff to be meal to a pair of wolves.
The Ellimist had cunningly given Tobias the power to morph again, including the chance to acquire his human self back the night before Elfangor showed up at the construction site. Jake later on realized the Ellimist had given Tobias a big choice. Tobias could either morph to his human self and stay permanently human, or remain a hawk and keep the morphing power to help him and the rest of the Animorphs and Ax fight. Tobias chose to keep fighting.
Cassie and Rachel discovered a Yeerk escaping from a wild horse out in the Dry Lands, an area around someplace similar to Area 51 known as Zone 91 at the beginning of The Unknown. Jake had to stay at home for his dad’s birthday as the rest went to Zone 91 to confirm that Rachel and Cassie had seen were not real horses.
At a racetrack, Jake and the others had come very close to having their secret out while acquiring different racehorses. They came back to Zone 91, followed the Horse-Controllers into the base to learn from Ax that the heavily guarded object was a primitive Andalite Porta-Potty.
They eavesdropped on Visser Three as Cassie figured out his backup plan to turn some of the Air Force guys into Controllers at the Gardens. They managed to sneak in and save them as all the Yeerks made a run for it.
In book fifteen, The Escape, Visser One and Marco’s mother had returned to Earth for an underwater mission to create smart hammerhead shark Controllers (and she had Leeran-Controllers too—amphibian looking aliens that were psychic). Jake respectfully knew it was Marco’s call to keep the others in the dark on the truth until there came a time in which Rachel was close to killing his mother. He told them then as they escaped before the underground Yeerk facility became entirely flooded and destroyed.
Jake discovered a website about the Yeerks and had everyone gather to look at Marco’s house in The Warning. They spied on the chatroom and wondered if anyone other than them were truly resisting the Yeerks. They also wondered if this was a trap. In order to find out the identities of some of the screen names, they had to ride hitch a ride on a plane out of town as flies. Jake had been swatted and had to demorph in the small bathroom on the plane upon near death. The experience shook him up pretty bad.
They found who the head of the chat meetings was, a man who invented Web Access America; Joe Bob Fenestre. They discovered gunmen, dogs, electric fences and electricity traps on the windows that guarded his mansion. Unfortunately, Jake didn’t do his research as he had spent time with his family at dinner instead. His mistake caused Rachel and Ax to be captured.
With everyone else shaken, Jake had to get it together and come up with a plan. He ordered Cassie and Marco to stay where they were, as he needed Tobias’s help to get to the Gardens in a hurry to acquire a rhinoceros morph.
Jake used his new morph to charge into the mansion. Tobias flew upstairs to search for Rachel and Ax and found two guards with guns. Jake had to get up there, but rhinos weren’t built for going upstairs, so he told everyone to go to their standard battle forms.
While in tiger form, he had to take a gamble as he knew that all the guards were just guards—not Controllers. He managed to reason with the two guards that had tried to shoot down Tobias and they backed off.
They found Fenestre, along with Rachel and Ax in a suspended time state known as "biostasis". Fenestre explained to Jake, Cassie, Marco and Tobias that he was Visser Three's twin brother - Esplin 9466 Lesser. Visser Three, unwilling to share his power with his sibling, banished him to Earth as a lowly telephone operator. Fenestre, combining his Yeerk technical knowledge with his host's human knowledge, created a web service that would serve as a vast pool of information for the Yeerk invasion. The Visser was enraged, and has been plotting to kill him.
Jake asked this Yeerk how he managed to survive without the Kandrona. To their horror, they learned that Fenestre and his Yeerk worked together to locate and kidnap the Controllers, split their heads open, and devour the Yeerks.
Cassie was shocked and upset that Jake decided to let Fenestre go, but he and Fenestre had made a deal. Rachel and Ax were to be released unharmed, as Fenestre was to never leave the mansion. However, by the end of the sixteenth book there’s a news report about the mansion being burned down.
Jake and the others rescued a man named George Edelman from jumping off a building in The Underground. It wasn’t until later that they heard that he’d been sent to an asylum for talking about aliens living in his head. Upon breaking into the place to speak with him, they learned that the Yeerks have found a way to survive without Kandrona; through consumption of Maple and Ginger Instant Oatmeal. The side effect to this was that the Yeerks go insane and get addicted to the stuff without ever leaving the host.
A plan came in motion to dump the oatmeal into the Yeerk Pool. Their first attempt had failed. As they tried to follow a Human-Controller into a McDonald’s as flies, they had to get out of there before a Gleet Bio-Filter would destroy them. Ax yelled to his human friends in alarm and got them out of there, then later explained that this device was used to eliminate any unauthorized life forms nearby it.
So they had to dig underground as moles for their next attempt to invade the Yeerk Pool. They found a bat cave and morphed into bats to fly into the pool to be attacked by hunter robots. Jake, along with Ax and Tobias, were captured. Luckily the bravest Animorph of them all, Rachel, had disguised herself as Human-Controller with a Dracon Beam gun in hand. She tossed a barrel of oatmeal into the pool (finding it stored away someplace) and threatened to break it with the weapon unless her friends were safe and released.
Visser Three was willing to sacrifice his brethren to be sacrificed to keep Jake, Ax, and Tobias hostage. It was decided that the barrels of oatmeal to be shot at as they had to bail the hell outta there. Everyone made it out alive as the Visser was morphing into one of those alien beasts acquired from far and wide across the universe.
A person who was an important member of the government had been run over by Controllers and put him into a coma at the start of The Decision. Visser Three had a plan to acquire the man’s DNA and take over. The Animorphs and Ax decided to morph mosquitoes, for it was believed to be possible to acquire DNA by sucking blood.
This plan backfired, as they found themselves in Z-Space. An Andalite ship was caught in the slip stream of their extra mass (to which they already knew that their human parts go into Z-Space when morphing) while on their way to stop a Yeerk invasion on Leera, home planet of the Leerans. They were rescued just before dying of suffocation.
Jake wasn’t the only one angry when Ax obeyed the captain aboard the ship instead of him, as he and the other Animorphs in a room elsewhere on the ship. Eventually, they found out that the captain was a traitor, defeating several other Andalites but Ax could do nothing to defeat him.
Ax alerted his human friends when it was discovered that they were already there. Cassie distracted the Andalite traitor as Ax had defeated him. The second in command officer of the ship told them to leave before the Yeerks could take control of the ship. As they were clear, the ship blew up.
They headed for Leera to search for friendly Andalite allies. As they reached the planet, the Animorphs began to mysteriously disappear one by one, starting with Tobias. Ax had promised Jake that from now on he would follow only Jake’s orders as he came up with a plan. As they met some true Leerans—who didn’t mind them acquiring their DNA—when Rachel disappeared. From here they were getting scared. They told them about a bomb to explode a continent as Ax suspected. Soon after this, Cassie disappeared.
Marco disappeared when he, Ax, and Jake encountered a Leeran-Controller who found out about on what they were going to do—to activate that bomb. Soon after that, Jake was gone, leaving Ax by himself. Ax activated the bomb, but there were Hork-Bajir to disarm it. Just before a Dracon Beam could kill Ax, he disappeared, to be back on Earth with the others in mosquito form. Upon biting the government man’s skin, he woke up and tried to swat Ax. They no longer had the need to acquire him.
Later at the mall, Jake and the others listened as Ax explained that once they were sucked in Z-Space, they had to return back to where they were all together, a rubber band effect.
Onward to the secondbig kahuna Megamorphs: In the Time of Dinosaurs! Marco saw a news report about a downed nuclear submarine somewhere deep in the ocean. Jake was rather impatient and gloomy because of the storm that was about to start before they morphed dolphins to do a search and rescue. Gently, they located and kidnapped a female diver to help get those in the submarine out. Everyone was in a hurry and it was too late for the Animorphs as the underwater warhead exploded, sending them back in time sixty-five million years into the late Cretaceous period. There came to be another Sario Rip.
Tobias and Rachel were swallowed by a Kronosaurus (to which Tobias found that out later, as Jake, Cassie, Ax, and Marco made it to the beach to discover the volcano along with no signs of human life anywhere. They fell into despair but never really gave up on them being dead.
Twice in a row, the others encountered a Tyrannosaurus Rex. One was so close to eating Jake when he got a hold onto its tongue and acquired it. He started to morph while inside its mouth causing the giant tyrant king of the dinosaurs to spit him out and fall over, injured. They took this time to acquire its DNA before moving on.
Later, Jake, Cassie, Marco, and Ax reunite with Tobias and Rachel as they were making an escape from space ants (the Nesk) while in their morphs of various birds of prey who were prey to a bunch of pteranodons. They landed on a giant force field where they met a second but friendlier alien species than the Nesk called the Mercora, nonviolent while tending to grow their broccoli and other vegetables. The Animorphs and Ax learned that these two were at war with each other.
A plan came about to invade Nesk territory in their dinosaur forms—and they had some very big problems. Jake, Marco, and Ax were overpowered for a minute by the killer mind of the T-Rex. For Cassie, she couldn’t get a handle on her new morph as the T-Rex mind and instincts took down a Triceratops. Jake knew he had to help her, so he demorphed to his human self. It was bold, and definitely bordering around suicidal as everyone else had told him not to do this, but surely Cassie became Cassie again.
Everyone thought they could sneak in and steal a “nuke” until a thought speak detector alarm went off. The Mercora used telepathy to communicate and set up the alarm to keep them out of their territory, away from all the technology and alien equipment the Nesk had scavenged from other alien races in space. It was a rough fight and flee but they succeeded in stealing an explosive device because the Mercora rescued them.
A massive comet was headed for planet Earth. Tobias told Ax in private to make the nuke a dud so the Mercora couldn’t use it to blow up the comet. Jake was especially resentful and upset over what they had done, but Tobias knew it was the comet that was coming to make all the dinosaurs extinct. The Mercora had saved Jake’s life but he eventually realized that there was no other choice. That didn’t mean he approved of this, but they needed a heavy impact as massive as the nuclear sub explosion to return Jake and his friends back to their original time.
In the aftermath of their epic struggle to stay alive in the Cretaceous era, Jake and then eventually the rest of his friends discovered that they couldn’t morph into dinosaurs anymore.
Cassie had wanted to quit being an Animorph in The Departure. In upon encountering a Human-Controller who knew Cassie wasn’t an Andalite, Aftran 942 in the body of a little girl named Karen, she tried to convince Aftran to turn against her people, knowing that what the Yeerks were doing was wrong. In return, the Yeerk told her that to preserve the freedom of one species, she must surrender her own. She did, allowing Aftran to enter into her head.
Marco, who had found her with the Yeerk and Karen out deep in the woods, was panicking over this and soon Jake found this out. No doubt this upset him. By the time Jake and everyone else found Cassie, she was trapped in caterpillar morph in exchange for Karen’s freedom.
Cassie the caterpillar soon emerged out of a cocoon as a butterfly. Everyone else was saddened that she was to live and die as an insect. However, Ax questions how the caterpillar could change into a butterfly before realizing that the two-tour time limit had been reset. Jake raised his voice in alarm to catch Cassie.
Cassie returned to the group, Aftran established the Yeerk Peace Movement, and Karen compelled her rich father to help fund the Wildlife Rehabilitation Clinic.
Books twenty through twenty-two happen to be a trilogy. The David Trilogy.
In the first part, The Discovery, Marco noticed a new kid at school named David. The most interesting thing about him was that in his locker was the blue box (or Escafil Device as to what Andalites call it), the cube that gave Marco, Jake, and the rest of the Animorphs their power to fight the Yeerks. Jake agreed with him that this problem needed to be taken care of immediately, after not being able to purchase it from David.
Unfortunately, Erek the Chee also had to alert them of the Yeerks planning to infest the leaders from the most powerful nations of the world. Make those two major problems.
David was intending to sell the cube on EBay, and Visser Three won the bid. After a failed attempt to steal the box from David’s house, Marco and Ax try to do some computer hacking to stop David from sending an email to the Visser.
The clueless new kid in town had no idea what he had stepped into. By leaving the Yeerks his address, it resulted in complete disaster. His home was invaded, his parents were captured alive to become involuntary Human-Controllers, and David no longer had a home or family…yet he was rescued to become a new member of the Animorphs, after a while of uncertainty as to what to do with him. Marco and Ax were outvoted, unbeknownst as to what troubles David would cause after gaining the ability to morph. Marco knew David was trouble from the start. Ax simply didn’t trust him. Jake and the others chose to do this anyway.
David’s eagerness to kill and the disobeying of Jake’s orders were only the beginning, as they had a very important mission. The Blade Ship had captured a Marine One helicopter—to which the Animorphs believed the U.S. President was on. They snuck in and changed morphs to cockroaches. David was panicking as Jake was hissing at him to stop, and then they were discovered and ended up falling out of the Visser’s ship, as they were about to plummet into the ocean.
During part two, The Threat, Rachel and Tobias snagged Cassie, Ax, Marco, David, and Jake from mid-air. As soon as everyone was safe and sound on the beach, they knew that David had no skintight clothing. He was nervous and naked around the dunes. Jake took note of the tension occurring between Marco and David.
To get on with what was important, Tobias flew into a store and took some clothes for David to wear. Tobias also had to go fetch a seagull for David to acquire, and he unintentionally acquired it himself.
As they reached the hotel, they saw Controllers armed to the teeth, including having dogs accompany them and guards wearing sunglasses with weak Dracon Beam emitters into them. Jake gave the orders for everyone to get zapped one by one to not draw suspicion that they weren’t real seagulls before leaving.
Upon returning home, Jake received word of his obnoxious cousin Saddler was severely hurt in a car accident. He saw this as an opportunity to advance further into the importance of preventing the leaders from around the world to become Controllers.
Into the night, Cassie soon contacted Jake about there being no Dave Letterman. That obviously meant David. Arriving at Cassie’s farm, Jake had to morph into Homer to track David’s scent. Through what his dog nose picked up, David had morphed golden eagle to break into a motel. Jake found him in a room with a broken window watching TV. Feeling quite irritated with David’s actions, he had warned the troubled kid about the consequences. David tried to have Jake believe that the Animorphs stuff was like school and whenever he wasn’t needed he could do what he wanted. Of course that didn’t work, because Jake is a responsible person. So, with reluctance and contempt, David left the motel with him.
By the next day, Cassie formulated a plan to infiltrate into the bigger, much fancier hotel. Jake morphed into a dragonfly, and then the rest but Tobias (who had to guide them to the hotel) turned into fleas and latched on. He tried to sneak into the air vents to locate where the world leaders would do their speeches but he got trapped in a spider web. Marco had a really traumatic experience in being almost trapped as a flea as Cassie helped him get human again.
Jake located the banquet room and found out how the Yeerks were going to do the infestation, or so he had thought… Too bad their enemies seemed to be one step ahead of them, because they had set up a trap. There appeared to be several Hork-Bajir Controllers in the room. David got scared and tried to turn against the others to try and save himself. It wasn’t long until they found out that the Hork-Bajir were only holograms. So they took Visser Three hostage, and then withdrew. On the way home, the rest were disgusted by what David had tried to do as they at the same time tried to plan their next move.
Later on into the night, David returned to his old home. Jake and Ax pursued him. As Jake had arrived before Ax, he saw a dead red-tailed hawk. David believed he killed Tobias, and explained to Jake that he wasn’t being treated like an equal. The creeper said he decided to take matters into his own hands, and Jake got pissed. It was golden eagle versus peregrine falcon in David’s room. Hork-Bajir Controllers came by for a visit as Ax helped Jake to escape.
From there it was decided that David needed to be taken out, as Jake fought him in another battle; lion versus tiger. David had won and left Jake to bleed to death…
Going onward to the final part of the trilogy, The Solution, Jake is found and saved by Cassie’s mother (and both Cassie and Rachel made sure Jake demorphed without her noticing).
Tobias was found quite alive and well, for David had attacked and killed a true red tail.
The Animorphs had to try and trap their traitor. David threatened to reveal their true identities to the Yeerks in demand for the blue box as Marco. The real Marco was kept in a closet. Cassie’s attempt to reason with David failed, but Rachel managed to pin and threaten him. Jake’s cousin was pissed about him manipulating her violent tendencies by this point.
Then, they do one final attempt to hit the Yeerks where it hurt in charging as elephants and rhinoceroses. They left Visser Three enraged as their bold plan worked as they went back to dolphins to retreat to the ocean. Waiting for them there was David in orca form. Jake, Cassie, Ax, Tobias, and Marco go into a hushed silence as David made his accusation of Rachel’s threat to take out his family.
As the two cousins go into a bit of a fit over this, Jake thought of Rachel as a sociopath. This definitely was not the first time in which he’s been scared of Rachel, ‘cause she’s quite reckless and dangerous when it comes down to the battles and her direct ideas during the various missions.
At the hospital, Cousin Saddler’s family mourned for their dying child, but then it becomes apparent that he was far from that. Jake and Rachel both suspected that this so-called miraculous occurring was actually David in morph. Together, they soon reconciled and began to think up a scheme to beat the creeper at his own game.
It started as a mock discussion about the Escafil Device that could break up into smaller pieces, along with Rachel pretending to be morally defeated by David. They met up with him at a Taco Bell and agreed to lead him to where these pieces were scattered. David was allowed to morally and verbally abuse Rachel some more. Jake and everyone else were roaches trapped in a Pepsi bottle, as David and his bold cousin were rats going into the pipes. David soon found out about their trap, Rachel barely escaped, and the other gets a cage to fall down on him.
Tobias swooped down to reveal to David that he wasn’t dead, and had freed the others. From then on it is decided that the traitor was to become spend the rest of his life as a rat. He was left on a rock surrounded by water to plead and curse to his dark heart’s content.
The Pretender concerns mostly Tobias. Jake and the rest discover that Elfangor is Tobias’s father, in which is long and complicated story (The Andalite Chronicles). The other main thing going on was that a young Hork-Bajir from the free ones had gone missing. Jake had helped to create a distraction to turn out the lights at a dodgey roadside zoo/golf course for the first attempt for Tobias to morph Hork-Bajir and get baby Bek outta there. They failed, because Tobias was in serious pain when the Yeerks took the Hork-Bajir child.
By the next day, the Animorphs and the free Hork-Bajir planned an attack on the new Yeerk Dracon cannon facility out of town. The Animorphs and free Hork-Bajir allowed themselves to be captured. Tobias jumps out as a flea to morph out and then morph to Hork-Bajir to open the cage. Both Animorphs and freedom fighters scored themselves a victory.
A couple of small shiny spaceships seen as toys tried to steal the Escafil Device in The Suspicion. Jake, Rachel, and Cassie assumed they were, but in cruel reality they were actual ships piloted by a miniscule alien race called the Helmacrons. They shrunk Cassie, Marco, and Tobias inside the Wildlife Clinic to their size as Rachel hit one of the ships with a brick. Cassie’s father arrived not long after as Jake was mainly watching out for Cassie, Tobias, and Marco who couldn’t be seen but were there somewhere on the ground.
For a while, Marco, Cassie, and Tobias were prisoners on one of the Helmacron ships, to which Marco muttered that it was “full of Rachels”, because all the female Helmacrons were in charge and so high strung over the passive males and as fearless as Jake’s cousin was.
These annoying pests sure made a mess of things as they tailed Visser Three in his limousine and tried to destroy him. This much later results to Jake and Rachel getting shrunk with Visser Three morphing into an alien monster while on Ax.
The Helmacrons were becoming such a problem that the Visser decided to have a brief alliance with the “Andalite bandits” to get rid of them. Jake, Rachel, Cassie, Tobias, and Marco morph anteaters to get unshrinked and slurp up the Helmacrons. Visser Three discovered what they’d done and also become an anteater.
All Animorphs and Controllers by the end made a truce with the Helmacrons to part ways without causing anymore havoc. Before the twenty-fourth book came to a close, Cassie and Marco gave the male Helmacrons a bit of a pep talk to convince the males that they didn’t have to be slaves. The males and females from that moment on began squabbling over one another.
For the weekend at the beginning of the first
The news reporters said it was a tornado had attacked but that was far from the truth.
Onward to the second
